Dr. Sina Gerard was born in 1963 in Tare Cell, Nyirangarama Village, Bushoki Sector, Rulindo District, Rwanda—about 45 kilometers from Kigali. He rose from a modest background to become one of Rwanda’s most renowned entrepreneurs.

Starting with a small shop in 1983, Dr. Sina used his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to transform the village of Nyirangarama into a business hub. His enterprise, Urwibutso Enterprise, now includes food processing, hospitality, banking, education, and more. His signature products are recognized across Rwanda and abroad for quality and innovation.

Dr. Sina began selling essential goods to his neighbors while still in school. The success of his roadside shop led to the development of a complex that now houses his flagship enterprise and related ventures.

In 2022, Dr. Sina was awarded an Honorary PhD in Entrepreneurship by Azteca University in Mexico. His autobiography, My Journey as an Entrepreneur, documents his remarkable transformation from rural shopkeeper to global entrepreneur.

In 2003, Dr. Sina founded the Sina Gerard Foundation College, which provides quality education and vocational training for over 2,000 students, many from disadvantaged backgrounds. The TVET section supplies skilled workers for his enterprises, ensuring local empowerment.

In 2025, Dr. Sina founded the Sina Gerard University, in Nyirangarama, Northern Province, Rwanda.
